Shafiya Khatun, aged 15 is living with her parents and two little sisters from Shyampur, Meherpur. Her parents forced her to get married when she was in the fifth grade, which resulted in her dropping out of school. A year later, she divorced and returned to the home of her parents. Despite having a strong interest in her studies, she was unable to re-enroll in school.

“Now I spend my days helping my mother with the household chores and looking after my school. When my sisters are getting ready for school, the memory of my school days flood into my thoughts and I long to have those days back,” Shafiya said.

Shafiya hopes that she is able to continue her one day and become self- sufficient, but has doubts whether it is possible.

“I will try my best to ensure that my sisters are able to complete their education and have good opportunities in their lives,” she added.
